To celebrate a 10-year anniversary a few things are needed to make a trip truly special! World class golf at TPC Kuala Lumpur, a luxury stay at the Ritz Carlton and 72 finalists ready to party were some of the perfect ingredients to deliver another final to remember!
Over the past ten years the Sportingclass Industry Invitational has featured over 100 qualifying events to ten amazing final locations including Jamaica, Dove Mountain, Reynolds Planatation, Sanya, Sarasota, Naples, San Francisco, New Orleans and Kuala Lumpur. The return to Kuala Lumpur was the choice final venue following a hugely popular visit in 2016 whereby the group were treated to some amazing golf, hospitality and of course nightlife… there was only really one location to return to!
Following 12 rounds of qualification at iconic venues such as Loch Lomond, Woburn, Bearwood Lakes and The Grove 72 finalists were ready to take on TPC Kuala Lumpur and all its delights to be crowned 2019 champions of the Sportingclass Industry Invitational. On arrival the guests were welcomed to a reception hosted by Avis at The Ritz Carlton which kickstarted the night and set the pace for the trip ahead.
However, with buses leaving to TPC Kuala Lumpur at 6.30am each morning everyone had to ensure that they were ready to do the business on the course – that’s not to mention one or two may have decided to have an enforced lie in each morning! The practice round is traditionally our dress to impress day and we had some great entrants again this year with some slightly suspect golfing attire (see our photo gallery for the best photos). The prize was eventually awarded to drawshank redemption team for their courage and commitment to the cause!
Following another suitably late night, day two was the start
of the tournament meaning no messing around as teams were ready for
action on the East course at TPC Kuala Lumpur. QCS shot to a round one lead
with a combined better ball score of 80 points.
Going into the final round on the West Course there was a 6-team strong chasing pack within a handful of shots that were ready to pounce on any mistakes/hangovers from the team from Essex. A fightback wasn’t to be though and team QCS went on to win by a margin of 7 shots (159 points). CDW also scored 142 taking home the main prize for the sponsors tournament.
With the trip all but finished with a late evening flight there was a final chance for a couple of last beers to reflect on yet another special final before the long flight back and a much-deserved rest for all.
