The 1991 Masters Tournament winner, Ian Woosnam, will tee it up at Hanbury Manor Marriot Hotel & Country Club in The Sinclair Invitational from August 30 – September 1.
Woosnam has enjoyed a decorated career, including eight consecutive Ryder Cup appearances, including a spell as Team Europe’s victorious captain in 2006.
The Welshman was awarded an OBE for his contribution to golf the following year, in the 2007 New Year’s Honours List. Further confirming his huge contribution to the sport, he was announced as an addition to the Welsh Sports Hall of Fame in 2010 and most recently the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2017.
The Sinclair Invitational enters an exciting new era in 2019 as it is named after tournament founders Duncan and Corrine Sinclair, with the prize fund receiving a boost from £370,000 to £400,000 which therefore places it in the Tour’s top tier in terms of ranking points for the Order of Merit.
Five-time Staysure Tour winner Woosnam will tee it up in the event for the first time since its opening year in 2016 and will go in search of his first win on the over-50s circuit since 2014.
“It’s always nice having the chance to play close to home, whether I’m in Jersey or Shropshire,” he said. “I really wanted to support Duncan and Corinne because they have put three great events on over last few years. I’m looking forward to returning to Hanbury Manor. It’s a good golf course, and hopefully this year I can master the greens!’’
Woosnam will tee it up alongside amateurs as part of the popular alliance format at The Sinclair Invitational, where businesses and golf lovers can pay to play alongside the Staysure Tour’s stars in real competition.
Former Major Champions and Ryder Cup stars regularly tee it up on the constantly-evolving Staysure Tour which sees more tournaments added to the International Schedule year-on-year with higher prize funds attracting more and more players to the Tour.
“With Paul Lawrie also confirmed to play at Hanbury, we have two of the biggest names in over-50s golf in the field in addition to numerous Ryder Cup players and European Tour winners.”
